Maoxiang LI (John)

Maoxiang (John) Li is a Partner of Cathay CarTech Fund, and is based in Shanghai office.
John joined Cathay Capital in 2017. Prior to joining Cathay Capital, John was Executive Director of Corporate Development at Lear Asia. He has close to 15 years of automotive experience (both with OEMs and components) and served numerous positions in M&A, Business Development, Strategic Planning, and Partnership & Alliance. He represented Lear, Valeo, General Motors and TRW, and closed 15+ different projects in the form of joint venture, strategic cooperation, acquisition, buyout, etc.
His key achievements in deal execution: at Lear, he completed the restructuring project between BAI and BHAP and numerous buyout projects; for Valeo, he completed two shareholding restructuring projects and numerous buyout projects; at General Motors, he was a core team member of GM China restructuring (he executed GM-SAIC India Project, formed FAW-GM commercial vehicle JV and completed SGMW 10% share buyout)
John Li holds a bachelor’s degree in Finance and International Business from Indiana University (Kelley School of Business), and a MBA in Finance from Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business.
